California contract law is very complex. The basic source of contract law is found in the California Civil Code and Commercial Code. However, there are numerous court decisions, regulations and other laws (e.g. corporate law, consumer protection laws, real estate law) that also govern how contracts are created, performed and enforced.

There are numerous books published for consumers and business people that are great for learning the basics of contract law. When starting a business it is also a good idea to consult a qualified attorney about the contract issues that may be specific to your business.
